• A Comprehensive Plan or “Comp Plan” is a document that provides guidance for a city's future growth and development. Based on community input, a comprehensive plan establishes a collective vision for the community's future and sets goals and objectives to help achieve that vision.

In short, a Comprehensive Plan can be thought of as a “road map” or “to-do list” used to help a community create a more desirable future and improve the quality of life for the people that live and work in the community.

  • The purpose of adopting a Comprehensive Plan is to provide a firm foundation for policy and action that allows a community to function more efficiently and effectively, address community problems and issues, and promote a more certain future.

By updating the Comprehensive Plan, the City of Lead can better base its future decision-making to reflect the needs and wants of the community, and develop new programs, services, and regulations accordingly.

  • Starting in the fall of 2022, the City of Lead will be working on updating its Comprehensive Plan. This process will take roughly two years and include:

    • An analysis of past, current, and anticipated future conditions

    • Public input about the needs and desires of the community

    • Visioning and goal setting, as well as determining policies and strategies for achieving those goals

    • Careful consideration of Lead’s anticipated future growth and development over the next 10 to 20 years

An integral part of the Comprehensive Plan update process is hearing community members' ideas about how to make Lead a better place for the people who live, work, and do business here. A series of community meetings will be held and a community survey will be developed to gather your input. This information will be used to help develop a series of Comprehensive Plan goals and policies, which will direct the growth of the community and bring a collective vision for the future of Lead to life.
